To be able to gardening successfully in Florida, you have to familiarize yourself with the many common garden pests that thrive here. These plants have the ability to grow long enough to survive their eventual transplantation into your garden. Some heat-loving plants such as tomatoes and peppers have long harvest times and take a long time to ripen, so you cannot plant a second round because these plants do not mature in time. This takes its toll on young plants when they are just starting out, and it can take its toll on them in the long run.
There are many insect pests in your garden, but there are also numerous good bugs, so don't hurry to kill every insect you see in the garden. They are small, worm-shaped organisms that are barely visible to the naked eye, restricting the movement of water and nutrients to plants, causing stunted growth, yellowed leaves, knotted roots, and other problems.
Root vegetables such as beets and carrots are not very easy to transplant, so put your seeds directly into the soil and plant them as soon as possible.
For most plants, start planting at least one to two weeks before the seed is sown. If the external conditions allow, plant your seedlings in your garden and continue to care for them until they start to harden. Also consider the cost of starting them early in the house and sowing them outdoors in the soil. If you are not yet warm enough to plant outdoors, plant them in a large plastic peat pot for a few weeks and then continue the care.
The average frost date is based on historical weather data and is the planting guideline used by most gardeners. For certain plants I recommend the starting method N.A. for planting outdoors, but I do not recommend it for a certain plant if the date N, A appears on the table. Check your local forecast and enter your frost data, as this is a good way to know roughly when you should start your garden.
When calculating the planting date in autumn, which is actually summer, take into account the harvest time as soon as the harvest is ripe, so that it is tender and hardy in frost. When the planting moon date is also entered in the planting calendar, the farmers of the old days swear by this practice, which led to large, tasty harvests.
To plan your garden more accurately for the future, keep records of garden conditions throughout the year, including frost and seed insertion dates. The planting calendar is a guide that gives you the best time to plant your gardens based on the frost date.
Plants of annual flowers and vegetables bearing fruit on the ground in the light of the rising moon. The moon is full and every day it is new, so plant perennials and flowering bulbs, like annuals that bear fruit from the ground, like the dark dimming of a moon, or plants like annuals flowering vegetables that arise from ground fruits, like light grows the moon, and plantings like perennials and annuals that plant after dark.
To maximize early growth of a plant, you need to control the elements to the extent that you can give your plant the best chance to thrive indoors when you eventually transplant it outdoors. A good start is to attend one of the many garden courses we have been offering since 2013. These courses are designed to help new gardeners and newcomers to Marion County who are new to gardening, which can be challenging if they do not have access to correct gardening information. Expanding your gardening skills will help you successfully address many of the problems you encounter while gardening in Florida.
Participants are encouraged to bring specimens of plants, weeds, insects and diseases for identification. If you have any questions about gardening that you would like to answer, or if you have any questions about the course, please contact us.
Compost can be produced by collecting fallen leaves and letting them decompose in a compost bin or a hole in the ground. Adding compost is recommended to increase the amount of water and nutrients in your soil, as well as the quality of the soil itself. Soil testing is recommended to determine the level of soil moisture, soil quality and soil health.
