The Florida Trail (also known as the Florida National Scenic Trail) cuts through the Ocala National Forest. We spent the afternoon driving south on this route and turning eastwards towards the town of Belleview. Like Silver River State Park, Silver Springs State Park was founded in 1987 from land purchased by the state to protect it from development.

Besides everything that was in the city, we also wondered and admired about the dog - friendly paths that we had in the distance. Although Ocala and Marion counties have a lot to offer and are mostly nature-friendly, there are also 20-30 minutes of activities per day, which is a small downer. Apart from that, I was amazed and admired the Dog - Friendly Trail and had some distance between me and my dog.

Silver Springs State Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Orange County and a great place for a day trip. Take a glass of wine - boat ride and drive for lunch (8: 30 to 12 or 8: 00 to 19: 00) or drive back to the park to drive home.

If you own horses or love golf, it's perfect, but if you're driving from South Florida to the Mid-Carolinas, Ocala makes the perfect stop. It helps that there are nearly a handful of Florida's major cities, be it Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa or Orlando.

As Florida began to grow in the years after World War II, Ocala became a popular tourist destination.
